Mobile Bar Hire for Festivals and Markets: What Organisers Need to Know

Festivals and markets are a different beast to a private wedding or party, and the mobile bar solution you bring in needs to be built for it. Here's what matters most when you're planning bar service for a larger public event.

Volume is the obvious one. A trailer that's perfect for 80 wedding guests isn't going to cut it for a festival crowd of a few thousand. The Drifter carries up to 22 kegs, each 50Litres in volume, across 10 taps. Which means we can keep pouring through a full day of trading without constant changeovers slowing down the line. For large scale events in the thousands. If the event is big enough, we can hire in additional cool rooms to hold stock cold so its just a matter of changing over kegs as they run dry. Additionally, we also have access to a much larger cool room with 18 taps. This is purpose built for large festivals and events exceeding 5,000 patrons. This cool room can hold up to 90, 50 litre kegs (close to 10,000 schooners of beer). For organisers, that translates to shorter queues and fewer bottlenecks, which matters a lot when you've got a packed schedule of performances or stallholders relying on foot traffic moving steadily.

Licensing is the next big one, and it's non-negotiable for a public event. Anywhere alcohol is being sold to the public, proper liquor licensing and RSA-qualified staff are essential, not optional extras. Because we hold our own liquor licence, we take care of this as part of the booking, which takes a genuine compliance headache off an organiser's plate.

Logistics matter more too. Public events often come with tighter bump-in and bump-out windows, power and water access considerations, and site-specific requirements from councils or venue managers. We work through these details with organisers ahead of time so there are no surprises on the day, whether that's confirming power supply, discussing where the trailer can physically access the site, or planning stock delivery around road closures.
