How Many Kegs Do I Need for My Wedding?
It's one of the first questions we get asked, and fair enough. Nobody wants to run dry halfway through the speeches, but nobody wants six unopened kegs sitting around on Monday morning either!
As a rough guide, plan on each guest having two to three standard drinks across a four to five hour reception if beer is the main drink on offer. A 50 litre keg pours roughly 140 schooners, so for 100 guests having a couple of beers each, two to three kegs is a sensible starting point. If your crowd is more of a "few quiets after the ceremony" group, you can scale that back. If you know your friends and family love a big night, scale it up.
A few things shift the numbers around. Weather matters, a hot outdoor Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast wedding will get through more beer than a cooler evening event. The mix of drinkers matters too. If half your guests are wine or cocktail people, your keg count drops and your wine order goes up. And the length of the reception counts for a lot. A three hour lunch is a different beast to an eight hour party that runs into the night.
This is exactly why we ask about guest numbers, event length, and drink preferences before quoting. It means you're not guessing, and you're not paying for stock you didn't need.
Here's the good news: with our 10-tap trailer carrying up to 22 kegs, running out isn't something you need to worry about even for bigger weddings. We can also mix it up with wine, spirits and cocktails alongside the beer, so your guests aren't stuck with one option all day.
If you're still not sure where to land on numbers, that's what we're here for. Send us your guest count, your venue, and roughly how long you're planning to celebrate for, and we'll help you land on a sensible order rather than an overcautious one.
